Pink's Beautiful Trauma in South Florida

June 1, 2018

Part rock show, part Cirque du Soleil and part Broadway, P!nk delivered one of the most visually stunning tours to date. The lights dimmed and Pink entered the room swinging above the stage on a decadently large sparking hot pink chandelier while performing the perfectly chosen “Get the Party Started.” The party anthem got everybody inside the sold-out BB&T Center on their feet and kicked off a night to remember.

Once Pink made it to the stage after swinging around like a trapeze artist, she lead into “Beautiful Trauma” the title track off her latest release. Tying into it's lyrics “The pill I keep taking / The nightmare I'm waking / There's nothing, no nothing, nothing but you / My perfect rock bottom / My beautiful trauma” Pink followed with a performance of 2002's “Just Like a Pill.” The incorporation of older music had the fans going crazy and singing along with every word.

Pink's performance is something special, with her flying around the stage, doing flips in the air, and dancing with her six bandmates and copious dancers, you can hear the movements in her voice, adding a touch of reality to the show. You know without a question that Pink is singing and she makes every fan feel like she's singing directly to them. Over the night there were many costume changes, stage changes, and even a 30-foot-tall Marshall Mathers inflatable doll that she fought in the air during “Revenge,” her playful new song featuring Eminem. And that pink chandelier was just the beginning by the way. We experienced a pink ballroom, a pink bedroom, a forest filled with mythical creatures and a funhouse with fireworks. Every song had an intricate visual performance to back it; even if it was highlighting Pink in a single beam of light, blacking out the rest of the stage. Every scene was meticulous and each song performed, deliberate.

If not on a spinning bed or performing aerial ballet, Pink was on the catwalk, bending down to her adoring fans, posing for selfies, and grasping hands with the front rows. Witnessing this devotation, there is no doubt that Pink has a deep connection for the roaring sea of people below her.

Pnk and her repertoire of hits kept fans on their feet singing along – even joining along with back to back renditions of No Doubt’s “Just A Girl” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” And really what's better than a bunch of moms who grew up with Pink's career, jamming out to 90's alt and grunge covers with their daughters? The atmosphere was at an all time high, however, when Pink followed her three-time platinum hit “F**kin' Perfect” with five-time platinum “Raise Your Glass.” It was the loudest sing along I've ever had the honor of seeing at BB&T.

The night ended softly, after an hour and forty-five minutes of pure Pink mayhem, as “Glitter in the Air” begged the question, “Will it ever get better than tonight?” I doubt it.
