Rick Ross at The Republik in Honolulu

The self-proclaimed “Boss” of hip-hop Rick Ross brought his bravado to The Republik, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His visit to the island of Oahu coincided with concert dates that will take him through Australia and New Zealand.

As recently as March of 2018, the founder of the Maybach Music Group, was hospitalized and reportedly suffered a heart attack. TMZ had even reported the rapper was on life support. None of that was evident when Ross bounced on stage a few minutes after midnight, dressed in grey Gucci branded sweats. Sporting a slimmer frame, the Southern rapper shared the stage with two heavy-set bodyguards, his DJ, and his “right hand man” Whole Slab.

Sporting his signature aviator sunglasses, the rapper wasted no time in whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Ross attacked his raps over a backing track, leaving the choruses for Whole Slab and the enthusiastic audience. With bottles of Luc Belaire placed on the DJ booth and blunt in hand “The Boss” performed forty five minutes of nonstop hits. The rap anthems, “Stay Schemin”, “Trap Trap Trap” “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt”, “B.M.F.”, and of course “Hustlin’."

Live hip-hop shows have always been a crapshoot. Few artists have managed to perfect their act on stage. Considering the rappers ongoing health issues the performance was admirable. Let’s all hope Ross does not encounter any setbacks with his health and continues his reign as “The Boss”.

As of press time Rick Ross has cancelled his tour to Australia and New Zealand due to “unforeseen circumstances."
