Thrice | The Republik in Honolulu

October 15, 2019

A highly energized crowd welcomed the Irvine, California  based band Thrice to The Republik, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Band members Dustin Kensrue (vocals/guitar), Teppei Teranishi (lead guitar), Eddie Breckenridge (bass), and Riley Breckenridge (drums)  stopped in the Islands to promote their latest release Palms.

Formed in 1998, the band became one of the prominent post-hardcore bands on the touring circuit. Known for their fast driving music the band announced a hiatus in 2011. Four years later they returned and have since released two highly anticipated albums; To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere and Palms.

By showtime the rooms was packed. At approximately 10:15 P.M. the band came on stage and blasted into “Hurricane.” A mosh pit immediately opened up while the entire audience hollered the lyrics back at the band. Next came “Silhouette” and “Image Of The Invisible,” which proved  the band meant business. The band never let up. Highlights included “Artist In The Ambulance,” “Yellow Belly,” “Black Honey,” and “Under A Killing Moon” all of which kept the pit active. The tempo eased during the final song before the encore, “Beyond The Pines.” This was a perfect song to cap off the set. It was a great way to wind down before the encore. Within minutes the band returned and stirred up the crowd with “Deadbolt” and finally closed with “The Long Defeat” urging the courage to fight for the good even when it feels like there is no chance of winning.

Overall the set was amazing from start to finish. The band played nineteen songs in close to ninety minutes, a perfect mix of songs from their extensive catalog. Honolulu was the perfect location to conclude the current leg of the tour before they return to the road. During the months of October and November the band will be touring Europe.
