My Morning Jacket at Rose on the River

Rose On The River's debut was a smashing success, capturing the essence of a vibrant summer festival on Chicago’s waterfront. The Salt Shed stage was the perfect setting for a jam-packed lineup.

My Morning Jacket’s headlining set was the highlight of the first day. Their show was a masterclass in blending fan favorites with fresh takes. Opening with the electrifying “I’m Amazed,” the band quickly established a high-energy vibe that they maintained throughout the night. They treated fans to a selection of classics like “Lay Low” and “Dancefloors,” and surprised everyone with a debut cover of Carl Broemel’s “4th of July,” giving it their own unique spin.

The latter part of the set saw the band delivering powerful performances of “Circuital” and “Off the Record,” building up to a climactic finale. The collaboration with Karina Rykman added an extra layer of excitement. Rykman’s previous sit-in with MMJ for Radiohead’s “The National Anthem” had already made waves, and her extended involvement during this set was a thrilling highlight. Together, they tackled a lively rendition of “Louie Louie,” bringing a fresh Afro-Cuban twist to the classic. The festival’s opening day concluded with the rousing anthem “One Big Holiday,” leaving fans eager for more.

Overall, Rose On The River’s first day set a high bar for the festival, blending the nostalgia of iconic tracks with new, inventive performances, and showcasing a seamless collaboration between some of the jam scene’s most exciting talents.
