We have hardly digested our Thanksgiving dinner and we’re getting ready for ticket sales for the 2019 Newport Folk Festival which takes place in Newport, Rhode Island. Founded in 1959, this festival is one of the oldest in the United States. In the past such folk luminaries as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson have graced the stage. Although the ethos of the festival has not changed, the definition of “folk music” has expanded. Recently performers such as Hozier, My Morning Jacket, Roger Waters, Jason Isbell, Courtney Barnett, Alabama Shakes, Patti Smith, and Mumford and Sons have performed.
The festival will take place July 26 -28. Attendance is capped at 10,000 each day. Tickets will go on sale through the festivals website on Thursday November 29th at 10AM. EST. Oh, did I forgot to mention not a single artist has been announced. Every year fans trust that the music will be worth the price of admission. Personally I have never been disappointed. Tickets will sell out almost immediately to the Saturday and Sunday dates. Tickets to Friday may last until the end of the day.
