Last Thursday Paramore made the trek up to Minneapolis from Chicago to start the second leg of Tour 5. Paramore, with support “Sit Next To Me” singers, Foster The People, and LA based bedroom pop artist Jay Som who just hoped on in replacement of Soccer Mommy who supported the first leg of Tour 5.
Jay Som opened with "Turn Into," their closing track on Turn Into, they followed with "One More Time, Please," a track from their newest album, Everybody Works. They closed their set with "Baybee" - the top track on Spotify. Jay Som has been featured on NPRs Tiny Desk Series.
Foster The People took the the stage to follow with thick fog and rapid flashing strobe lights to open with "Miss You." Their whole set contained heavy flashing strobes, so much so that there were warnings on the way in. After "Miss You" they kept it up with "A Beginners Guide To Destroying The Moon." Each night they change up the order of their set just a bit, but one thing stayed the same - a cover of "Blitzkrieg Bop" by The Ramones! To finish up their portion of the night they closed with crowd favorites like "Sit Next To Me," "Pumped Up Kicks," and "Loyal Like Sid and Nancy."
Once Paramore hit the stage the crowd went wild and the night became a blur! They opened with "Grudges," a song from After Laughter, which then followed "Still Into You" from their previous self titled album. Lead singer Hayley Williams spoke before the song started and said “This is for Paramore.” After "Still Into You" they played another song from After Laughter - "Rose Colored Boy" where screens behind the band started flashing fun colors, patterns, live video of the crowd, and later flashed words of the song. "Rose Color Boy" melted right into a cover of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston. Other covers included "Passionfruit" by Drake and "All That Love Is" by Halfnoise - Zac Farro’s side project. The night closed out with 2017's mega-hit "Hard Times."
Paramore's performance featured an acoustic break towards the middle, where Hayley performed breathtaking renditions of "Misguided Ghosts" and "26." Afterward, the rest of the band returned to the stage where they played mega-hits "Misery Business" and "Ain't it Fun." Paramore is consistently one of the most energetic and fun bands to catch live in the scene and this tour is no different,
