Rae Sremmurd at The Republik in Honolulu

Brothers Slim Jximmi and Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii after a tumultuous world wind tour of New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China, and Thailand. During their time away from the United States there was a street brawl in New Zealand and rumors dominated online that the brothers had decided to go their separate ways. By the time the duo performed at The Republik all of the past drama seemed like a distant memory.

Originating from Tupelo, Mississippi, Rae Sremmurd have recently dominated the hip hop world. In 2015 their debut StremmLife reached platinum status with a string of hit singles including “No Flex Zone,” “Throw Sum Mo,” and “No Type.” StremmLife 2 was released in 2016 and dominated the Billboard Hot 100 with single “Black Beatles.” Finally in 2018, SR3MM was released which included a release by the duo and the solo efforts Swaecation and Jxmtroduction.

Rae Sremmurd were riding high by the time the duo appeared onstage at The Republik. The pair entered the venue as Swae’s collaboration with Post Malone, “Sunflower” reached number one on Billboards Top 100. The heavily tattooed brothers did not disappoint their fans. The pair stormed the stage and sprinted from one side to the other the entire show. For over an hour the brothers pumped out one banger after another. Songs from every album were well represented in the set. Between taking selfies with fans cell phones, and dousing the front of the crowd with water, the duo delighted fans with all their hits including, “No Flex Zone,” “Black Beatles,” “Perplexing Pegusus,” “Sunflower” and ending the set with “Powerglide.”

If you believe the rumors, there may be trouble in the Rae Sremmurd camp. It was evident on this night that the two brothers were simply enjoying themselves and the fruits of their success while giving the crowd a performance they won’t soon forget. Be on the lookout for Rae Sremmurd. They’ll be on tour throughout 2019 hitting most major markets and festivals in the United States and Europe.
