Viva Hinds! Hinds Bring Their Raw Energy to Chicago

Hinds' latest album, VIVA HINDS, emerges as an emblem of resilience and friendship amidst challenges, resonating with raw emotion and unfiltered honesty. Created after a transformative period of loss and regrouping, this fourth release opens with the track “Hi, How Are You,” where members Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote openly exchange sentiments of struggle and survival. Following the departure of their bassist and drummer, a management split, and the loss of their label, the remaining core duo found strength in their deep bond, which they describe as being “millionaires in friendship.”

Taking a spontaneous and heart-driven approach, they enlisted friends and inspirations like Beck, who features on the hypnotic “Boom Boom Back,” and Grian Chatten of Fontaines D.C., adding layers to “Stranger.” Alongside these collaborations, the album reflects an adventurous spirit in its sonic elements, encouraged by Sean Silverman of Beach Weather, whose influence helped shape the album’s soundscape.

Recorded in the calm of rural France, they crafted intimate, makeshift studios in quiet, scenic spaces. This natural, serene backdrop allowed for open windows during recording and peaceful walks by the sea. With the aid of producer Pete Robertson and Grammy-nominated engineer Tom Roach, the duo constructed an album that straddles boldness and authenticity, making VIVA HINDS both an adventurous sonic journey and an emotionally cohesive reflection on their growth. The single “Superstar” encapsulates this spirit, offering a rallying cry against superficial fame.

In VIVA HINDS, Hinds draws inspiration from artists like Daniel Johnston and Courtney Barnett, evoking the rawness and simplicity of impactful songwriting. With tracks like “Coffee,” where they reject societal expectations, the album captures the freedom and defiance of two friends navigating life’s ups and downs, celebrating the joys and challenges of staying true to themselves and each other.
